Chapter 1

Y/N's POV

The cold air seeped through the small cracks in the store room’s window, making me shiver. It wasn’t the first time I had woken up to this suffocating space my so-called family made sure I knew my place in this house.

Today was my first day at university, a place I had struggled to get into despite the odds stacked against me.

I stretched my sore limbs, the weight of exhaustion clinging to me like a second skin. The small alarm clock beside me buzzed, indicating it was already 5 AM.

If I didn’t wake up now, my stepmother would have another reason to punish me.

Sliding off the mattress, I walked toward the small wooden shelf where I kept my belongings just a few books, some clothes, and an old photograph of my real mother. I picked up the picture, running my fingers over the faded edges. I wish you were here, Mom…

Brushing away my thoughts, I quickly changed into my uniform a plain white blouse tucked into a navy blue skirt, along with a navy blazer. It wasn’t fancy, but it was mine. Grabbing my bag, I took a deep breath before stepping out of the store room.

As expected, my presence in the main house was unwelcome.

Aaru's POV

The scent of fresh pancakes and coffee filled the dining hall as I scrolled through my phone, half-listening to Mom rambling about her upcoming charity gala. I smirked, liking a comment under my recent Instagram post of course, people were obsessed with me. They should be.

Everything in my life was perfect. Except for one thing her.

As if summoned by my hatred, she emerged from her rat hole. Y/N. The stain on our family name.

I watched her closely, irritation bubbling beneath my skin. How dare she breathe the same air as me? It was bad enough that she existed, but now… she was going to my university? No. Fucking. Way.

Before she could take another step, I stood up and Slap!

A satisfying sound echoed through the hall as my palm connected with her cheek.

"Look at you, acting all high and mighty just because you’re going to university," I sneered. "Tell me, how did you even pay for admission? Or did you Spread your legs for anyone”

Her eyes widened for a fraction of a second before she quickly lowered her gaze. Pathetic.

"Enough, Aaru. Don’t waste your energy on this filthy girl," Mom said, sipping her tea with distaste. "She’ll realize soon enough that she’s nothing more than an insect in a world of kings."

I smirked as Y/N clutched the strap of her bag tightly. She didn’t say a word she never did. Good. That’s how it should be.

Y/N's POV

I fought back the tears burning in my eyes and forced my feet to move. Just leave. Just go.

My heart pounded as I stepped out of the house, the morning air doing little to ease the lump in my throat. My cheek still stung from Aru’s slap, but it wasn’t the physical pain that hurt, it was the reminder that no matter what I did, I would never be enough for them.

I walked quickly, blending into the busy streets. The university wasn’t too far, and I was grateful for the walk. It gave me time to gather myself before facing the new world awaiting me.

Jungkook’s POV

The sound of engines revving filled the morning air as I buttoned up my black shirt, rolling up the sleeves just enough to show the inked patterns decorating my skin. My black leather jacket hung loosely on my shoulders, and I smirked at my reflection in the mirror. Another day of fun.

I grabbed my helmet and keys, ignoring the maid’s attempt to remind me about breakfast. My parents didn’t mind they knew I lived on my own terms.

Stepping out of the mansion, I spotted my Ducati gleaming under the morning sun. Without wasting another second, I swung my leg over the bike, twisting the throttle as the engine roared to life.

Within minutes, two more bikes joined me on the road.

"Ready?" Jimin’s voice came through my Bluetooth earpiece.

"Always," I smirked, pushing my speed higher.

We weaved through the streets, the wind howling around us as the city blurred into streaks of motion. Racing had always been my escape it was the only time I felt completely free.

But then, something unexpected happened.

A kid ran onto the road.

"Shit!" I cursed, trying to slow down, but the speed was too high.

Just when I thought the worst would happen, a shadow darted out, pushing the boy away. My tires screeched against the pavement as I tried to regain control, stopping a little further from the scene. My heartbeat hammered in my chest.

"What the fuck…" I muttered, jumping off my bike and running back to where the accident almost occurred.

A small crowd had gathered around someone.

As I stepped closer, my eyes locked onto the figure of a girl her navy uniform stained with dirt, her arm scraped and bleeding. She sat on the ground, breathing heavily.

For some reason, my feet refused to move.

My gaze traveled to her face, but her long hair shielded most of it from my view. All I could see were her eyes deep, wounded, yet strangely captivating.

Who is she?

Something inside me stirred, a foreign feeling I couldn’t place. Before I could say anything, she pushed herself up and started running.

"Hey! Wait" My voice broke through the crowd, but she didn’t stop.

Instead, she turned slightly, just enough for me to catch a glimpse of her features. Her hair fell over her face again, revealing only her eyes.

A fleeting moment.

A feeling that shouldn’t exist.

And then she was gone.

I clenched my jaw, frustration bubbling inside me. Who was she? And why did it feel like something just changed inside me?

A soft sniffle broke my thoughts.

I turned to see the small boy, clutching his mother’s hand tightly. He looked shaken but unharmed. His mother, however, looked furious.

I sighed, stepping forward. "Is he okay?"

The woman glared at me, her grip on her son tightening. "You almost killed my child!"

I ran a hand through my hair, guilt settling in my chest. "I know. I’m sorry."

Her expression softened slightly, though her eyes still held worry. "If it wasn’t for that girl"

I nodded. "I know."

The boy looked up at me with big, teary eyes. "Hyung, you go too fast," he mumbled.

I crouched down to his level. "Yeah… I did. I shouldn’t have."

He sniffled, wiping his nose. "She saved me."

"Yeah," I muttered. "She did."

His mother exhaled sharply, then placed a protective arm around her son. "Just… be careful next time."

I nodded. "I will."

With that, she led her son away, and I watched them disappear into the crowd.

I turned back toward the direction where the girl had run off, but she was long gone.

My hands curled into fists.

I needed to know who she was.

And something told me… this wasn’t the last time I’d see her.

"Jungkook!"

A slap on my back snapped me out of my daze. Jimin and Taehyung stood beside me, grinning.

"What?" I scowled.

"Why do you look like you just saw a ghost?" Taehyung chuckled.

"Yeah, man," Jimin added, wiggling his eyebrows. "Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for someone at first sight?”

I scoffed, shaking my head. "Shut up."

But deep down, I couldn’t shake the image of her eyes from my mind.

And I had a feeling this wasn’t the last time I would see her.

The locker room was alive with the usual noise guys laughing, lockers slamming shut, and the faint scent of cologne mixed with sweat. I sat on the bench, elbows resting on my knees, staring at the floor. My mind wasn’t here. It was still on her.

Those few seconds from earlier kept replaying in my head. The way she threw herself in front of that kid without hesitation. The way her small frame trembled as she got up and ran away.

And the worst part?

I didn’t even see her face.

“Oi, Jungkook! Where the hell did you go?”

I blinked, snapping out of my thoughts. Jimin and Taehyung stood in front of me, smirking like they knew something I didn’t.

“You’ve been staring at the floor for the past ten minutes,” Taehyung said, crossing his arms. “Don’t tell me… our bad boy Jungkook is thinking?”

Jimin gasped dramatically, clutching his chest. “Unbelievable! I never thought I’d see the day.”

I rolled my eyes, leaning back against the locker. “Shut up.”

Jimin wiggled his eyebrows. “Who is she?”

“What?”

“The girl,” Taehyung added, grinning. “You only look this lost when something or someone gets stuck in your head.”

I scoffed. “You guys are idiots.”

“Ohhh, so you’re hiding something!” Jimin gasped again. “That means we’re right!”

I exhaled through my nose, knowing they wouldn’t drop it. “She saved a kid today.”

Both of them frowned. “And?”

“She was wearing our university uniform.”

Taehyung raised an eyebrow. “Okay… so what’s the big deal?”

I didn’t know how to explain it.

I didn’t even know why I felt this way.

I barely saw her. I didn’t know her name, didn’t know what she looked like. And yet…

“I just want to know who she is,” I muttered, rubbing my temples.

Taehyung and Jimin exchanged looks before bursting into laughter.

“Oh man, this is hilarious,” Jimin chuckled.

“I swear, if this keeps up, he’s going to start writing poetry,” Taehyung teased.

I glared at them. “Shut the fuck up.”

Jimin smirked, throwing an arm around my shoulders. “Well, lucky for you, today is Freshers’ Day.”

I frowned. “And?”

“And that means all the new students will be gathered in the main hall for introductions,” Taehyung said, a knowing grin on his face. “If she’s a fresher, she’ll be there.”

I leaned back, considering it.

If she was in this university, I’d find her.

I didn’t know why it mattered so much. It was just… something about her something I couldn’t ignore.

Jimin clapped his hands together. “Great! Let’s go check out the new girls.”

Taehyung smirked. “You mean freshers?”

Jimin winked. “Same thing.”

I rolled my eyes. “You guys are disgusting.”

Jimin shrugged. “Hey, we’re just appreciating the new faces.”

“I’m not going,” I said, standing up.

“What? Why?” Taehyung whined.

I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder. “I’m not in the mood for your stupid games.”

Jimin smirked. “Not even if she’s there?”

I clenched my jaw.

They were right.

If she was a fresher, this was my chance to find her.

“Fine,” I muttered. “But if you two idiots embarrass me, I’m breaking your bones.”

Jimin and Taehyung high-fived. “Deal.”

In the Main Hall

The main hall was packed with freshers nervous students standing in small groups, some looking around excitedly while others whispered among themselves. The air buzzed with anticipation.

Jimin and Taehyung, as expected, immediately started scanning the crowd for pretty faces.

“She’s cute,” Jimin murmured, nodding toward a girl in the corner.

Taehyung whistled. “Damn, look at that one in the blue dress.”

I ignored them, my eyes sweeping over the room.

I wasn’t looking for just anyone.

I was looking for her.

But she wasn’t here.

I frowned, scanning the crowd again. Maybe I missed her? Maybe she was standing somewhere in the back?

Nothing.

My fists clenched slightly. Was I wrong? Maybe she wasn’t a fresher. Maybe she was already a student here, but in a different year.

Or worse maybe she wasn’t from this university at all.

The thought irritated me more than it should.

“Not here, huh?” Taehyung’s voice broke my thoughts.

I shook my head.

Jimin patted my back. “Maybe she’s from another branch. We’ve got three buildings, after all.”

I exhaled, forcing myself to let it go. “Yeah. Maybe.”

The bell rang, signaling the start of classes.

“Time to go,” Jimin sighed dramatically. “Goodbye, freshers. I’ll see you in my dreams.”

Taehyung rolled his eyes. “You’re unbelievable.”

I stayed silent as we left the hall, my mind still stuck on the mystery girl.

Maybe I really was overthinking. Maybe I wouldn’t see her again.

Maybe it was just a coincidence.

But deep down, I didn’t believe that.

And as we walked away, back in the hall, a girl entered her steps hesitant, her uniform slightly dirty, her knee bruised and bleeding.

I didn’t see her.

I didn’t feel the way my heart would have reacted.

But she was there.

And fate was already pulling us closer.

Ch 1 end!!!
